The Mondeo is one of the best selling vehicles that the Ford brand has ever had on offer. The very first version of the car was first released onto our streets in 1992 and now twenty two years later we are reaching the fourth life cycle for the vehicle. Just one year into the vehicles life span, the Mondeo was awarded the what car? Car of the year award in 1993.
All throughout the generations to go on sale it has won many awards with one of the latest being Whatcar's best family car of last year. This just goes to demonstrate how well this vehicle has done over its time on the market. Now the Ford brand looks to break some records and make history once more with the addition of the brand new model that will go on sale later on this year.
So in regards to some of the new changes that are to find their way into this particular addition to the line up, Ford has officially confirmed the details regarding pricing,interior features and the exterior styling of the car. A hybrid version of the car has also been confirmed to come along this time around. Regarding the engine ranges that will come along with the vehicle, you can expect to find Ford brand new Ecoboost units which include a 1.5 litre and a 1.6. Other engine ranges are expected to be announced closer to the official time of launch.
A 2.0 Ecoboost petrol and 1.5 litre, TDCi diesel units are expected to be confirmed. A 2.0 litre, four cylinder engine will come along with the two hybrid power trains to go on offer. It has been stated that on electric alone, the cars are expected to travel for around 20 miles before needing a recharge. As standard a six speed manual transmission system will come along with the new Mondeo across the range and it has been confirmed that six speed,powershift transmissions will come as an alternative. A diesel engine line up will also be fitted with an automatic gearbox for the first time ever in a Mondeo and will be a four wheel drive variant.
During production time Ford have also been hard at work when it comes to the exterior styling and interior features to come along with the vehicle. Located on the outside of the car you can expect to find LED tail lights and a set of redesigned exhausts. A brand new cabin,Bluetooth connectivity,Fabric inserts in the door and dashboard and adaptive cruise control are just some of the highlights that find a place inside the car.
The Mondeo is one of the biggest and best selling family cars on offer around the world and has in the past locked horns with some of the finest family vehicles on the market like the Skoda Octavia and the Passat from Volkswagen. This brand new Mondeo addition for 2014 is certain to deliver on much of the same competition and could even challenge other manufacturers like Vauxhall and Audi in the process.
The vehicle will officially arrive in Ford showrooms around the country close to the end of this year and it has been officially confirmed that the vehicle will go on sale from a price of £20,795 for the entry level model.
