Mercedes will be sponsoring this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, which begins on June 26th. At a special launch event in London, the flag has fallen, with Goodwood owner Lord March announcing Mercedes-Benz will sponsor this year's show as the brand celebrates 120 years of motorsport.

Other significant anniversaries will be celebrated at Goodwood including 50 years since the Mini won it's first Monte Carlo Rally, the 40th anniversary of McLaren's first F1 crown and the 60th anniversary of the Jaguar D-Type.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed

The event is held every year with a new theme each time and this year's Festival of Speed has been revealed as 'Addicted to Winning – The Unbeatable Champions of Motor Sport.' Meaning the event will celebrate legendary drivers, teams and manufacturers around the world.

What will happen at the 2014 Festival of Speed?

Famous faces in motor sport will be at Goodwood this year, including Sir Sterling Moss, Mark Webber, Jenson Button, Emerson Fittipaldi, John Surtees and Lewis Hamilton. Seven time NASCAR champion Richard 'The King' Petty is expected to be returning to the event for the first time since 2006. Nine time world rally champion Sebastion Loeb will also be attending this year, for the first time since 2009, in order to attempt to break the Goodwood hill climb record in the Pike's Peak Peugeot 208 T16 racer. The record is currently held by Nick Heidfeld in a McLaren Formula 1 car.

Alongside the theme of the event, this year's show will also celebrate the centenary of Italian manufacturers Maserati, with some of the most successful racing cars from the marque's history being showcased, including the 1928 Maserati Tipo 26B and the MC12 GT racer.

Road cars that will be tackling the 1.16 mile hill climb will be the new BMW M4 Cabriolet, a special edition BMW M5, the Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake, Volvo V60 Polestar and a prototype Honda NSX which will be making it's world debut.

Comments on this year's Festival of Speed

Lord March commented, “It’s tremendously exciting that we will again have so many phenomenally successful competitors, from right across the motor sport and motorcycling, taking part in the Festival of Speed. To be able to see Richard Petty, John Surtees, Tom Kristensen, Sebastien Loeb and Giacomo Agostini all at the same event is something you don’t get anywhere except the Goodwood Festival of Speed and it’s yet another indication of the incredible popularity of the event, which celebrates its 21st birthday this year.”

The 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed is set to begin on the 26th of June and last until the 29th June.
