Recent Skoda news

Skoda has been making the news a lot this week, with the Skoda Yeti being launched in the UK and the company adding new Monte Carlo and L&K models to it's line up. Here's a brief overview of the recent news from Skoda.

The Skoda Yeti is launched in the UK

In an effort to advertise the new Yeti model, Skoda's UK dealership's creative director has found an interesting way to celebrate it's launch. They took the Skoda Yeti Outdoor and froze the vehicle inside a giant block of ice in Covent Garden, London. In order for people to be able to see inside, the company had to use crystal clear ice.

According to the Communications Manager at Skoda UK, Sarah Chapman, this was the company's way of portraying the idea of “breaking free from everyday life, seizing the day and having those adventures with your family.”

Alongside this, there was also a contest and a Yeti mascot. The contest consisted of guessing the weight of the car combined with the block of ice, the prize being a Skoda Yeti vehicle. The idea worked well with lots of people showing interest in the new Yeti model. Prices for the Skoda Yeti Outdoor model start at £19,605 to £20,260 with extras fitted.

The Skoda Monte Carlo

The company's Monte Carlo models have sold well in Fabia form, so the firm have decided to expand the sporty trim level to the Citigo, Yeti and Rapid Spaceback ranges. The cars are marked out by black alloys in sizes from 15 to 17 inches and dark-tinted rear windows. The Yeti and Rapid Spaceback Monte Carlos also have a black roof. Inside, the Monte Carlo models gain a special red stitched steering wheel, black interior trim and sports seats.

The Monte Carlo models add a more distinctive look and are intended to represent Skoda's successes in motorsport. Last year, Skoda achieved one of the most successful years in it's motorsport history, with Czech driver Jan Kopecky winning the European Rally Championship, Indian star Guarav Gill taking the Asia-Pacific Rally series and Paraguayan driver Gustavo Saba winning the South American Rally Championship.

The Skoda L&K

The Octavia L&K takes it's name from Laurin & Klement, the founders of Skoda. The trim level will become available on both the Octavia hatch and Estate.

The new Octavia L&K will be available with three engines; the 1.8 litre TSI petrol and two versions of the 2.0 litre TDI diesel. The petrol model comes with a choice of six speed manual or DSG gearboxes, and the latter will be available with four wheel drive. The 1.8 litre TSI with six speed DSG is also available with all wheel drive.

The lower powered diesel will be available with a manual transmission and four wheel drive, while the high power diesel with DSG and four wheel drive will top the range when it arrives later in 2014.

Standard equipment will include 18 inch alloy wheels, bi-x3enon headlamps with LED daytime running lights and LED tail lights. Inside, the model gets a multifunctional steering wheel, leather/Alcantara seats, an upgraded stereo and extra decorative trim.

Skoda will be featuring their new VisionC concept, the new Octavia Scout, Monte Carlo and L&K models at the Geneva Motor Show next month alongside other manufacturer's models.
