The new Audi A3 e-tron
The electric car and hybrid market has been a success within the UK thanks to that Government initiative and the Audi brand have also had to endure the success of the market leader in the form of the Nissan Leaf.
However, the Audi brand along with Volkswagen have assessed the electric car market and decided to attack it with a number of converted models on the range. Audi have announced that they will be adding the A1 and the A3 to the electric car market along with the e-tron name tag.
Volkswagen have approached the market with a similar strategy to that of the Audi brand which may have been part of a joint approach. Volkswagen have used both the VW Golf and the VW Up and simply added the letter E as a indication for the electric motorised version of the model.
On the other hand, BMW have decided to build a whole new range of models around the electrical development and motorised vehicles. BMW have decided to design the I range of models.
The Nissan Leaf has been one of the most mentioned models in our articles here at Shortfall as the success of the model has been unrivalled in the electric car market. We at Shortfall are big admirers of the electric car and will be interested to see how things develop in the UK.
The Audi brand is arguably one of the most prestigious brands and automotive brands in the market today and therefore highly valued. The addition of an electrically powered vehicle will only reinforce the Audi name that can be associated with the words quality and innovative.
The new Audi A3 and A1 may well be perfect to rival the likes of the Nissan Leaf in the electric car market. However, the new range at BMW may well be more intriguing and futuristic and therefore more appealing to the motorist of today. On the other hand, the Volkswagen Group will be looking for the Audi and VW brands to be the most successful additions.
