The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer arriving this September

The brand new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will be arriving in showrooms this year in September and will have a starting price of £22,150.

The company has recently revealed that first deliveries for the model are expected for September. There will only be two engine variants available from the model launch and prices will rise to £24,205 for the 218d SE model.

The model was first unleashed back in March at the Geneva Motor Show and was the first ever front wheel drive model from the German manufacturer. Despite it's name, the Active Tourer is actually no relation to the standard BMW 2 Series Coupe, as it will be using the same running gear as the new Mini model.

The engines for the model have also been borrowed from the MINI, with the entry level 218i using the same 134 brake horsepower three cylinder 1.5 litre motor. The more powerful 2.0 litre diesel, with an output of 148 brake horsepower and a claimed economy of 68.9 miles per gallon is fitted to the 218d. A little after the September launch, BMW is set to expand the 2 Series Active Tourer lineup, introducing the 216d, 220i and 220d models, along with all wheel drive variants.

Standard kit throughout the range includes two zone automatic air conditioning, an automatic tailgate, rear parking sensors, 6.5 inch monitor, Bluetooth with USB interface, DAB digital radio, sports multi function leather steering wheel and keyless go and engine start. So with that in mind we see this particular model as a strong contender for similar models from rivals such as the likes of Audi, Mercedes and Nissan.

Sports models for a further £1,250 can be specced over the standard SE specification and receive sport front seats, larger 17 inch alloys, black high gloss trim and LED ambient lighting. Luxury models demand a £2,000 premium and have LED ambient lighting, are trimmed with Dakota leather upholstery, Chromeline exterior, 17 inch alloys and wood trim.
