The Peugeot 308 R
The French manufacturer Peugeot have announced plans to release a brand new 308 R model. The Peugeot 308 model will be powered by the same 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine that was recently seen in the RCZ R.
The engine choice may display the intentions of the French manufacturer as they look to expand the current range to increase demand and desire. Peugeot Citroen PSA have had well documented struggles, which has seen the company come close to both closure and a sale to Vauxhall owners General Motors.
However, the company was once again saved by the French Government as a large cash injection was pushed into the business. The struggles in the European economy have affected a number of manufacturers and demand has somewhat disappeared for those who depend on their home markets.
Another manufacturer to be worried by the dwindle in demand is Fiat, the Italian manufacturer has seen a loss in profit and a worry for market share as sales in southern Europe completely disappear. On the other hand, Fiat currently own Chrysler and Jeep amongst other franchise manufacturers who have a very large dealership network within the US.
The new Peugeot 308 model will be part of the attempt to rebuild the reputation and quality that a lack of sales may portray to motorists. The Peugeot and Citroen brand have both been one of the common sights on the roads of Europe and although sales of new models have slowed, Peugeot insist that they will be back to top selling ways.
The new 308 model will join the Range Rover Hybrid model at the Frankfurt Motor Show as it looks to attract interest. Peugeot have used a number of techniques such as the use of carbon fibre in the attempt to increase both speed and power. Only a number of features from the standard Peugeot 308 will remain on the R version.
